The library will be having a "Festival of Giving" the second week of December. Several children's programs will have children decorate holiday cards or winter scenes that will be sent to troops stationed overseas.
Teens will also play a role by making cookie mix and soup mix jars that will be donated to the Matawan Food Pantry.
"Food for Fines" is back again for its third year. Bring in a canned good or non-perishable food item to cancel out your fines during the month of December. All food will be donated to the Matawan Food Pantry.
The Children's Services Department at Matawan Aberdeen Public Library serves children with a collection that includes picture books, beginning readers, classic and contemporary children's fiction and a broad non-fiction collection for general interest and homework help. The children's librarian can assist with reader's advisory, research, and curriculum support. Regular toddler and preschool programs are scheduled as well as programs for babies and school-age children.

Budget Cuts: Update
The Matawan-Aberdeen Public Library is now joining with many other libraries in a statewide advocacy to restore library funding to the state budget. Orange postcards are available to fill out to oppose the reduction in funding. On your next visit, please fill out an orange postcard at either the circulation desk or the children's desk. You can even add a message on the back if you'd lile. Then, we'll send all of the postcards together to legislators. For more information on the budget cuts, or to email your legislator, please visit Save My Library NJ.

Library Budget Cuts
Due to budget cuts presented in the governor's budget address, library funding has been cut by 74%. This means that libraries are in serious danger of offering fewer services including programming, inter-library loans, and internet service. To find out how to help restore funding or find out more information about these proposed budget cuts, go to Save My Library NJ.
